The biology of behaviour is one of the classical disciplines in research and teaching of biological, veterinary and agricultural faculties. Knowledge of farm animal behaviour plays a crucial role in the assessment of animal-environment interactions, especially in the context of improving animal welfare and husbandry.
The professorship, held by the behavioural biologist Prof. Dr. Birger Puppe, is linked to the management both of the Institute for Behavioral Physiology and the Ethology Unit at the Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Dummerstorf.
