Our research focuses on carbon and nitrogen turnover on the ecosystem scale. It our goal to improve our understanding of the controls of matter turnover across scales and to identify controls and proxies that can be used for meso- scale spatial modeling and regionalization.
The connection of landscape pattern with ecological process is a fundamental question of landscape ecology. We seek to better understand the impact of vegetation (species composition) and soil properties on the turnover of matter and information on site-, ecosystem-, and landscape-scale.
To achieve this goal we implement vegetation ecological, plant physiological, hydro-chemical, and micro-meteorological methodology. The obtained information are brought together and jointly analyzed with the help of GIS and geo- statistical models.
