Teaching

The professorship teaches courses in the Faculty's Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Agricultural Sciences. Modern animal welfare science requires comprehensive knowledge in the fields of behavioural biology and physiology. Students are introduced to basic and applied issues in farm animal ethology and animal welfare with a focus on cognition and learning, affect and emotion, social behaviour and communication. Lectures and courses are underpinned with examples from basic and practice-oriented research. As part of their academic qualification, students have the opportunity to use experimental facilities at the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Dummerstorf.
