Research

The research of the chair deals with the development of artificial intelligence (AI) methods for a sustainable construction industry of the future. At the core of the research are AI algorithms for Digital Twins along the entire life cycle of constructions. In design, AI methods of Digital Twins are explored for the automatic design of sustainable buildings, and also combined with novel multi-modal user interfaces. In construction, AI methods are investigated that allow to derive Digital Twins of construction robots. In operation, AI models are developed to automatically learn Digital Twin AI models that optimize the sustainable operation of structures. The fundamental methods of the Digital Twins across the lifecycle phases are semantic knowledge graphs in combination with novel AI algorithms. The following figure represents this conceptually.

An overview graphic showing the research concept of the professorship. It shows a construction site in front of which the lettering "Digital Twins" is circled by the three aspects Design, Build and Operate. These illustrate the circular aspect of the Digital Twin research field.
