Species knowledge is an important skill for many professions in which nature and the environment are the subject of research, assessment, planning or protection. As a quality assurance measure for species knowledge, the "Bundesweite Arbeitskreis der staatlich getragenen Umweltbildungsstätten im Natur- und Umweltschutz" (BANU) has developed a certification system for various species groups that defines a transparent standard with different levels of difficulty. For example, the BANU field botany certificate can be used to certify botanical species knowledge acquired as part of training and/or self-study.
We offer an examination for field botany at bronze level on July 19, 2025. After passing the exam, an official certificate will be issued by BANU.
Examination procedure
The BANU Field Botany Bronze certificate demonstrates knowledge of over 200 plant species. In the examination, 20 randomly selected species are tested. The correct and unambiguous German or scientific species name must be given with the corresponding plant family. You have a maximum of 45 minutes time for the examination. You pass the examination if you achieve 80% of the points, and you pass with distinction if you achieve 90%.
