Welcome
to the homepage of the Professorship of Animal Breeding and Genetics!
The professorship teaches courses in the Bachelor degree program in Agricultural Sciences and in the Master's degree program in Sustainable Agricultural Systems.
How are traits of resilience and resource efficiency inherited in our livestock? Can we breed for them? Which genes are responsible? How does the environment affect the activity of these genes? How do we make the husbandry of chickens and pigs more sustainable? How can we preserve and use the diversity of farm animals? The professorship deals with these and other current issues in the field of (molecular) livestock breeding in research, but also in teaching.
The professorship is linked to the management of the Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Dummerstorf. This double function, held by Prof. Wimmers, ensures a close cooperation between the staff of the professorship and the FBN in research as well as in teaching.
