Master Environmental Engineering Sciences
The Master's programme in Environmental Engineering has been part of the Faculty's study programme since the summer semester 2012.
The degree programme has successfully undergone an internal accreditation procedure and meets the standards of the Conference of Ministers of Culture and the University of Rostock. The internal accreditation is valid until 30 September 2027. For the wintersemester 2024/2025, the course was made more flexible and the course content was adapted even more closely to the solution of current global challenges.

Aims and Characteristics
The Master's degree course in Environmental Engineering is a research-oriented course of study with a total duration of two years. The course is dedicated to global environmental issues such as problems of water supply and disposal, the circular economy and energy supply alternatives. In addition to in-depth specialist knowledge, the course provides students with a range of key skills that enable them to develop a profile for research, scientific and advisory activities and the management of companies in the environmental sector.
The degree program has the following main educational objectives:
- Acquire knowledge of the complex interdependencies in the environment and environmental problems
- Acquire skills in the use of digital tools for system analysis and the design and modeling of environmentally friendly solutions
- Acquire knowledge of the design, construction and operation of sustainable infrastructure in environmental technology, water and recycling management and renewable energy systems
- Acquisition of skills for planning liveable, multifunctional and sustainable spaces in urban and rural areas
- Ability to manage and balance the interests of stakeholders while maintaining environmental science requirements
- Acquisition of methodological skills and soft skills for research and advisory activities as well as for the exercise of management functions in companies in the environmental sector.
Particularities
The Master's degree program in Environmental Engineering is part of the cross-university concept for engineering education in the field of construction, landscape and environment (BLU concept) of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
It offers the opportunity to change universities and/or degree programmes within the framework of the BLU concept between the University of Rostock, Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences and Wismar University of Applied Sciences.
