AquaLoop - International Conference Bremerhaven, Germany

The international final conference of the AquaLoop project took place on 25 February 2026 in Bremerhaven, Germany, under the title: “Strengthening Circular Economy and Valorisation of Side Streams in RAS Aquaculture”. The event brought together more than 70 participants, both on-site and online.

Key topics included the increasing importance of circular economy approaches in the context of the climate crisis, as well as the challenges associated with implementing such principles in practice. Further discussions focused on circular economy concepts in aquaculture, presenting experimental results from the AquaLoop project alongside findings from related research initiatives.

In the second part of the conference, particular attention was given to the inclusion of stakeholders and consumer perspectives. In addition, issues related to education and the shortage of qualified professionals were addressed, with the aim of embedding circular economy principles in the thinking of future generations.

Alongside scientific results, practical approaches from pilot systems and commercial aquaculture operations were presented. Moreover, strategies, legal frameworks, and market conditions relevant to the effective valorisation of by-products were discussed.

The conference concluded with a tasting of various catfish-based products, which not only offered a culinary experience but also created an informal setting for networking, exchange, and reflection on the day’s discussions.
