In the free compulsory elective area, modules amounting to 30 credit points must be taken from the modules not taken from the compulsory elective area profile lines. In order to demonstrate a breadth of specialization in environmental engineering, it is recommended that students only take modules amounting to 30 credit points from a profile line not previously selected. This can then also be shown on the certificate as a further specialization.

Compulsory elective modules that are assigned to several profile lines cannot be recognized twice upon successful completion. Other modules must then be selected in order to achieve 30 credit points. Upon application, the Examination Board can decide on the recognition of further modules for a profile line.

3D point cloud of a trench partially overgrown with trees, generated with a laser scanner mounted on a drone. The drone, a DJI Matrice 300, flew at an altitude of 80 m above the trench. The laser scanner (L1) scans the earth's surface at 240,000 pulses per second. With its ability to partially penetrate the canopy, it is possible to use the data to create trench profiles and measure tree height, for example. Collage: Görres Grenzdörffer
