Biography of Prof. Hendrik Jansen

 

Prof. Jansen took over the Chair of Sustainable Urban Development and Mobility in April 2024. He completed his studies in spatial and urban planning from 2006 to 2012 at the Technical University of Dortmund and San Diego State University in the USA. He gained practical experience at ASTOC architects & planners (Cologne) and the Berlin housing association WBM, among others. He has been managing director and partner at bjp | bläser jansen partner since 2012.

Among other things, Jansen has taught at the University of Kassel and TU Dortmund University and conducted research at the Institute for Regional and Urban Development Research (ILS), ETH Zurich and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, USA. He was then deputy professor at the Department of Urban Design and Urban Land Use Planning at TU Dortmund University and most recently Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the International University of Applied Sciences in Berlin.

Hendrik Jansen has over 12 years of experience in the design of urban planning projects and is active as a specialist judge in urban planning procedures.

Biography of Dr. Mohamed ElGamal


Dr. Mohamed ElGamal joined the Chair of Sustainable Urbanism and Mobility in March 2025 as a Post Doc Associate. He holds a PhD in Urban Planning (Urban Governance) from the University of Kassel, an international interdisciplinary Master's degree in Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design from the University of Stuttgart and a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Alexandria in Egypt. He gained university experience as a research assistant at the University of Kassel from 2017 to 2025 and previously at the University of Alexandria since 2011 through participation in numerous DFG, DAAD and Erasmus Plus cooperations with universities from Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt and Cuba.

His courses cover the topics of sustainable urban design, urban renewal and development, transformation processes, urban livability and international urbanization (especially in the Global South). His teaching methods pay particular attention to the link between urban planning processes and spatial realities in understanding theories and concepts.

His research interests include urban transformation processes, urban management, integrated neighborhood and urban renewal concepts, citizen participation, urban governance, land-use policies and the preservation of cultural heritage.

Biography of Nepo Schrade

Nepo Schrade (M.Sc.) has been a research associate at the Chair of Sustainable Urbanism and Mobility since October 2024. He completed an interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree in Urban Studies and International Relations at Hampshire College in the USA, followed by an M.Sc. in Town Planning at the University of Brighton in England and an additional B.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning with a focus on urban design at the Technical University of Berlin. In practice, he gained several years of experience as a town planner at Broxbourne Borough Council, a municipality on the outskirts of London, and at the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing in Berlin.

Biography of Carolin Froh

Carolin Froh (M.Eng.) began her research work at the Chair of Sustainable Urban Development and Mobility in January 2026. At the same time, she works in project management at the Rostocker Gesellschaft für Stadterneuerung, Stadtentwicklung und Wohnungsbau mbH (RGS). There, she supports urban development measures in their preparation, implementation, and management, and is involved in developing and evaluating corresponding concepts and plans.

Previously, she worked in project management at BUGA GmbH Rostock. She completed a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture and a master's degree in landscape and studies at the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences.

Fatemeh Hosseinpour

Biography of Fatemeh Hosseinpoure

Fatemeh Hosseinpoure (M.Sc.) has been working as a Research Associate at the Chair of Sustainable Urbanism and Mobility since February 2026. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering before pursuing a Master of Science in Integrated Urban Development and Design at Bauhaus University Weimar. Following her studies, she gained professional experience in the fields of urban development and mobility through her work in academic institutions, international collaboration projects, and municipal contexts. Her work focuses on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of urban development and mobility strategy planning, with a particular emphasis on sustainable, climate-responsive, and integrated planning approaches.

Biography of Erik Weitz

Erik Weitz started working as a streetcar driver for Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG in 2012. In 2016, he completed his studies in transport engineering at the TU University of Dresden with a degree in engineering. During his academic career, he supervised practical seminar papers, master's theses and dissertations at renowned institutions, including TU Dresden and TU Berlin. Mr. Weitz has worked in various regional and municipal transport companies in the field of transport planning. Since 09/2024 he has been Head of Department for “Strategic Transport Planning” at RSAG. In addition, Mr. Weitz has been involved in working committee 2.4 (public transport facilities) of the Road and Transport Research Association (FGSV) since mid-2024.

Biography of Throbald Goltz

Theobald Goltz (B.Sc.) has been working as a student assistant at the Chair of Sustainable Urban Development and Mobility since January 2026. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering Science and is now continuing his studies in the same field with a master's degree in Sustainable Environmental Planning. Previously, he worked as a working student at the Mecklenburg Engineering Office for Transportation Infrastructure.
