The aim of the project is to anchor aspects of agrobiodiversity more firmly in higher education in Latin America in a multidisciplinary approach.

The University of Rostock will cooperate with several partners in Latin America (Universidad Granma and Universidad Central de Las Villas in Cuba, Universidad Nacional de Agraria in Nicaragua, Universidad La Plata in Argentina and Corpoica in Colombia). In addition, external partners from the countries will support the project.

The project focuses on biodiversity issues in existing agricultural, environmental and natural science degree programmes. For this purpose, 7 study programmes have already been selected by the participating institutions. In these, modules are to be revised and then made available to the partners in digital form.

Methodologically, it is planned to design the modules in such a way that they can be completed both on-site within the framework of courses and online in the form of e-learning. For quality assurance purposes, suitable evaluation instruments are being developed in parallel with the revision of the modules. Module content and information is available to students via an internet portal.

In order to promote student exchange, attendance phases at the partner institutions should be made possible. In addition, graduate and doctoral students are given the opportunity to work on specific projects on topics related to agrobiodiversity in working groups at the partner institutions. In the process, they should also acquire more advanced skills in the techniques of scientific work.

A workshop on biodiversity will be held in each of the participating American countries. In addition, two excursions are planned in Nicaragua and Colombia. For the transfer of expertise in the field of agrobiodiversity to teachers, farmers, authorities and non-university institutions, newsletters, teaching letters and practical recommendations are being developed in addition to the provision of information via the internet portal.
